The Best Beef Stroganoff...Ever

I fell like I need some good old-fashioned comfort food today, so let's get our Beef Stroganoff on...shall we?

This was ALWAYS my selection for my "birthday dinner" while growing up.  And, it still remains one of my most favorite foods that just makes me feel at home.  It's an old classic recipe modified from a  late version of the Betty Crocker Cookbook.

Ingredients:
2 Tbsp butter
1/2 lb. mushrooms
1/2 cup green onion, diced
1 lb. beef, cut into bite-sized strips (I usually go for flank steak)
10 oz can beef broth
2 Tbsp Ketchup
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tsp Montreal Steak Grillmates seasoning (or just salt and pepper)
3 Tbsp flour
1 cup sour cream
bag of egg noodles (we always get the No Yolk brand, they're the best)

Directions:
1. Melt butter in large skillet and saute mushrooms and green onions until soft.  Remove from heat and set aside.

2. Pour 1/3 cup beef broth from can into small container, and set aside for later.  Cook meat in a deep skillet until light brown then stir in ketchup, minced garlic, Grillmates seasoning, and the remainder of the beef broth in the can.  Cover and simmer for 15 min.

3. While the meat is cooking, start boiling your noodles according to directions on packaging.  When done, rain and set aside.

(the final 3 steps happen very quick...so you're almost there!)

4. Place reserve broth (the 1/3 cup you set aside earlier) and flour in a shake-safe container (I like to use a sturdy salad-dressing shaker).  Shake to combine, then add to meat on stove.

5. Add mushroom and green onion mixture to meat and heat to boiling.  Once it starts to boil, stir constantly for 1 minute, then remove from heat.  (It should have thickened a bit by this point.)

6. Once removed from heat, stir in sour cream.  Pour the sauce over noodles and serve to your happy campers.

Hope you enjoy this one as much as I always have.  Everyone we serve it to comes back for more!  Any other beef stroganoff lovers in the audience?  Ever heard of it?!?
