Valentine's Day Dress-Up

I'm far from a fashionista, even on my best-dressed days, but I do appreciate fashion and I love looking at all the trends of the trade.  Since Valentine's Day is only a week away, I did some online window shopping of sorts to see what would be fun to wear for the holiday.  I always love red - or even (a little) pink - in a wardrobe, but for those of you who don't feature those colors often, why not add a dose of the hues to your get-up for the occasion?  No fears, they're not all dressy items...after all, not all of us go out on the town on a romantic date for Valentine's Day.  A nice time with loved ones at home or at a family restaurant is just as special!

My favorite casual outfit idea for the day - because casual is my go-to wardrobe of choice/reality:

Totally doable, right?!?  We all have some jeans and a little red something in the closet.  Just mix and match with some good neutrals like gray, tan, or black.  Red nail polish alone would be a fun kick!

Here are some fun red and pink accessories that you can wear (most) any day of year:

Love this Merona clutch ($12) from Target.com.  It has the cutest polka dots and is made of durable fabric that wipes clean with a damp cloth.

A rope bracelet ($68) with a sweet friendship-bracelet look from Miansai...with the added bronze and silver detail to dress it up for a more grown-up look.  Chic and so cute!

I'm totally diggin' these Parfait Pink Teardrop Earrings (only $12!!!) from an online jewelry boutique called 1928 Jewelry.  I also think "Parfait Pink" is the most adorable color name I've heard in a while...

These red wedge pumps ($89) from Macy's also come in black for you traditionalists.  They would be super cute with a fun outfit like the one below...oh, and much more wearable:

The adorable bubble-gum pink Eliana Suede Ballet Flat ($79) by Tom's is a wonderful option that also allows you to give back - they donate a pair of new shoes to a precious kid in need for every pair you purchase.  A great one-for-one (or two-for-two...), if you ask me!

Now, if you do want to get dressed up a bit, here are some beautiful more-dressy options:

Lovin' this red Rodna dress (on sale for $100) from Anthropologie.  It converts into a halter, as well, so you have two options for wear.  The Little Red Dress is the "new" Little Black Dress!

The pink Mini Tulip Dress ($63) from Asos has a flattering belted waistline and whimsically fluted cap sleeves.  Both classic and romantic!

If you'd rather wear one of your go-to black dresses, consider adding a dash of mega-flirt with these Nine West shoes ($79) from Macy's.  They're high, but have a nice platform on the front so they won't feel so tall.

Now, this final outfit picture is BOLD but so daringly fun.  And, I felt inspired by it somehow, so I just had to share it with you:

I never would have imagined the color combination and simply couldn't leave the house in this, but she sure does look super cute in it.  Moral of the story - if it makes you smile, why not flaunt something outrageously wonderful!

Hope we got the creative clothing juices flowing for next week...  Do any of you have some good suggestions for us on how to dress-up a bit for the official Day of Love?  -Kristen
