Now for the gooey delectable goodness! Note: I modified the original recipe a bit to cut back on the sugar and butter because I had way more sauce than needed to cover the dumplings.
Ingredients:
2 tubes of crescent rolls (I used Pillsbury flakey crust crescent rolls)
2 Granny Smith green apples
1 stick (1/2 cup) salted butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
Cinnamon to taste
8 oz Sprite or 7Up (I used Sprite Zero)

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a large baking dish - I used a large glass pyrex.
2. Peel apples and slice into wedges. A potato peeler worked great for the peeling and then I used my handy-dandy OXO apple corer/slicer I bought at Target. It's a must have for quick apple slicing.
3. Open your crescent roll tubes and separate the triangle sections of dough. Take one apple wedge and roll it up in a crescent roll triangle - start at the wide end of the triangle and roll to the point. Do this for all your apples wedges and crescent triangles, then place the dumplings in your dish. It should look like this...

4. Place the butter in a microwave safe bowl and melt it in the microwave (approx 45 seconds). Add the sugar and vanilla, then stir until well blended. It's a sticky thick goopy mess...but that means it will taste delicious.
5. Spoon this sauce over the dumplings, coating the surface well.

6. Sprinkle cinnamon on top of the sauce-covered dumplings. I gave them a good dusting because we LOVE cinnamon.
7. Pour Sprite around the base of dumplings...I think this gives the apples some moisture to soak up so they are tender and juicy. Here is how it should look before you place the dish it in the oven...

8. Place in oven and bake at 350 degrees F for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown.
When they come out they'll (hopefully) look like this:
Serve dumplings warm over some vanilla ice cream - the ice cream is a must if I do say so myself! The dumplings were even good as left-overs. We heated them up in the microwave and had dessert 2 nights in a row...true confessions of a sweetaholic.
This is a great recipe for the kids to help with because they're near impossible to mess up. I think it may be a new family favorite for us! Hope you enjoy them as much as we do. -Kristen
We made these after your suggestion and yummy ...sooo good and Soo simple! The one change I made was using ginger ale instead of sprite just because that is what was in the fridge. Way easier to whip up with two babies in the house than my family's apple crisp! Thanks!
